* A judge's ring is an ancient stone-type grave type. It is a circle of stones, erect or horizontal, which are often odd in number - usually seven or nine. Judges' rings were common during the migration period *, but they came into use as early as the end of the Bronze Age.

In the past, during the Middle Ages, it was thought that referee rings were ancient courts. The theory was that there was a judge on each stone and thus the vote could never be a draw as there was an odd number of stones / judges. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the rings were used for this purpose. Fire pits have instead been found inside them.

Most referee rings are in Småland and Västergötland. They also occur outside the Nordic countries, including Poland.
